Hospitals that are interested in lowering costs, increasing patient satisfaction and improving communication and efficiency should consider implementing the Kaizen method to streamline processes. In an article by FierceHealthcare, Sheridan Healthcare’s Dr. Lee Fox, chief of radiology at Jupiter Medical Center, answered questions about Kaizen and its impact on his own department.

In the case of Jupiter Medical Center, implementing the Kaizen method lowered the radiology department’s wait times by 50 percent, as well as increased patient satisfaction scores. The Kaizen led to changes that reduced expenses and enhanced revenue.

The secret to applying an effective Kaizen campaign is to excite team members about making the changes for process improvement. Making the team members and leaders realize that they can have a positive impact on the way people perform and perceive their work helps to achieve active participation in the Kaizen method.
