CLINICAL SOLUTIONS SERIES: OBTAINING PEAK OR EFFICIENCY.

One of our partner hospitals, was experiencing cancellation rates of nearly 20% caused by scheduling difficulties and staff  member stress. A wide variance in case volumes was also contributing to inefficiencies. Using Kaizen lean process methodology, Sheridan anesthesiology led the transformation that resulted in a 73% reduction in same-day case cancellations.

Introducing 72-hour pre-op requirements and earlier insurance verification led to a 150% improvement in chart completion before surgery. The event also eliminated massive waste and rework.

Not only were same-day cancellation rates reduced from nearly 20% to 5%, charts were made much more clear and legible which helped raise quality metrics and reduce errors. Getting physicians,anesthesiologists and hospital staff on the same page made a significant and measurable difference.
