Relying on notes written in shorthand during surgical procedures is problematic and inefficient. Transcribing them manually often much later has led to missing information and incorrect notes being recorded. Sheridan began to research improved methods for anesthesiology documentation.
Simplified recording techniques and real-time data entry were explored by the team at Sheridan Healthcare. According to Roger Brown, M.D., an anesthesiologist and national medical director at Sheridan, using a digital pen to record notes in real-time in combination with a cloud-based system is providing a simplified method of data capture that benefits patients and the entire surgical team.
The resulting data liquidity works harmoniously with all downstream service applications such as EHRs, analytics and billing. It has also proven effective in saving costs in smaller hospitals or ASCs with limited IT budgets.
