Leadership: Charting the Course for Success

The Sheridan Leadership Academy is a program that offers education and training for Sheridan clinicians. All medical directors participate in this collaborative environment focused on effective communication, process efficiencies and other operational issues.

Sheridan Leadership Academy Est. 2006Physicians gain a fresh approach to their personal leadership styles to enhance their ability to lead while refining their decision-making expertise. The purpose of this program is to enable leaders to grow at all levels, working together to elevate overall performance. The program offers the following leadership resources:

Annual Sheridan Leadership Conference

  • A two-day retreat designed around leadership development
  • Four curriculum tracks
  • Opportunities to collaborate and network with colleagues and other specialty leaders

Emerging Leaders Program

Sheridan has partnered with the American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL) to design a focused leadership development program called the Emerging Leaders Program. This is a 12-month program that will include the following components: 

  1. Attendance at the annual Sheridan Leadership Academy Conference
  2. Seven in-person training sessions delivered by AAPL faculty*
  3. Five on-line virtual (self-paced) training sessions delivered by AAPL faculty*
  4. Final presentation designed to showcase what you have learned and applied throughout the program

The program is intended to enhance skills and capabilities in all areas of leadership.  The courses are designed to provide in-depth knowledge related to business and financial skills, core leadership skills, interpersonal and relationship skills that will work well in any role at Sheridan.  The experience also includes one or more special assignments that will give practical application of the areas demonstrated in the program.

  • Understanding a participant's strengths and weaknesses to support leadership development
  • Leverage competency model developed for healthcare leaders
  • Identify discrete development priorities
  • Create individual plans to accelerate leadership growth

Quarterly Webinars

  • Topically focused webinars
  • Focused on current healthcare challenges
  • Presented by the hospital advisory board

Online Education Portal

  • Sheridan provides an Emergency Medicine Education Portal located on our intranet system. This portal offers coursework selected by our panel of physician leaders relevant to "hot" topics, current clinical issues and HIPAA.
  • Sheridan monitors and tracks each provider's CME to confirm that requirements are met. Each Sheridan provider maintains a sufficient number of CME credits in accordance with the requirements set forth by all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations. Additionally, it is part of each Sheridan employee's contractual obligation to maintain CME credits and accreditation for NCQA.
